A list of celebrities-- including fictional characters-- I've been told I look like:

Rachel McAdams- My biggest "Uh.. Not so much!" moment.
Natalie Merchant- She was huge at the time and I was doing the reddish, wavy hair thing.
Morticia Addams- People are cruel. Yes, I have dark hair and pale skin, but Morticia?
Elizabeth Hurley- That had to have been a beer goggles moment.
Isabella Rossellini- A dear friend from long ago who was more kind than truthful compared me to her.
Winona Ryder- I got this quite a lot growing up. Again, it was the dark hair and pale skin, not the features.
Soliel Moon Frye- Ok, I can kinda almost see this one.
Sofia Coppola- It's the nose, isn't it? Has to be the nose..
Stacy London- Love her, love the show, don't look like her.

It's gotten to the point where anytime I see any kind of construction going on, I can feel my blood pressure rise. The idiot squad across the street is still moving around various piles of dirt and blocking up the road, but not doing much else. Unless you consider making lots of noise doing something. Today was the final straw: they blocked our fucking driveway.

So today was the day I stopped by at my former salon to pick up the rest of my things. I was determined to go in and be polite. As my mother says, no need to burn bridges, right?

My Dear Albanian Friend (a.k.a., DAF) was in today, so I chatted with her as I picked up my things. She asked about my health and we discussed children's doctors-- as mothers are wont to do-- when we were interrupted by a snippy voice. Or should I say Snippy's voice?

Why do kids-- and cats-- think that if they can't see you, you can't hear them? You'd think they'd have figured this all out by now-- at least the kids-- since I have been known to yell across the house "I'm not deaf, you know!"
Perfume? Doesn't taste as good as it smells.
I really don't like getting hot flashes. I really, really don't like waking up with them.

That sound you just heard? Was probably me screaming in frustration.

The reason I haven't been blogging is because I was determined to crochet my own hat and scarf set this winter. Any set I remotely admired anywhere cost a small fortune and I wasn't having that. So I bought up some yarn and found a cute design that I added to and set out to make me some knitwear.

The salon (ex?) boss is a crackhead.

I noticed the odd bit of insanity now and then, but shrugged it off as eccentricity. Even when my dear Albanian friend-- a.k.a., DAF-- told me she was insane, I attributed it to a clash of egos mixed in with a bit of dramatic exaggeration on my friend's part. Today, I learned how right she was. And I called her to apologize.

The Cheesecake Recipe

I unabashedly used this recipe from epicurious.com and made a few minor tweaks. I didn't top with sour cream and I mixed the ginger snap cookies with graham crackers and chopped them roughly (for added texture). I also baked it in a bain marie (water bath) to insure there would be no cracking. (Cracking occurs when the proteins bind too tightly from high heat, the water ensures slow and even heating.)

Now, I'm not sure of the availability of the ingredients outside of the states, so you may have to experiment with others (creme fraiche for sour cream, mascarpone cheese instead of cream cheese, etc.). I also don't know how to convert into metric. Good luck with that as you're on your own there.
